RSVP Banghra play unique ‘Live at The Quarry’ show
July 9th saw a unique live performance take place at the Old Town Quarry in Weston Super Mare in the South West of the UK. RSVP Bhangra played a unique performance to a socially distanced audience of 80 people. The band is currently spearheading a ‘renaissance’ of live Bhangra in the UK and is responsible for bringing it to a mainstream audience for the first time. The band has in the past performed at both Glastonbury and WOMAD festivals and has also toured extensively across the UK and Europe.

The solar powered and eco-aware show is part of a series of live performances taking place during the daytime and evening at the Old Town Quarry, between July 1st and 17th. Other events in the ‘Live at the Quarry’ programme include theatre, comedy, cabaret and dance. The sustainable series of events include locally sourced food and drink and are designed to provide an infrastructure sympathetic to the environment and natural quarry setting.

The Old Town Quarry is long considered to be the seaside town’s hidden gem, providing a unique surrounding as a natural amphitheatre with the events taking place under canvas in a stretch tent with socially distanced tables.

‘Live at the Quarry’ is presented by Theatre Orchard and Culture Weston and features a collaboration of the town’s Love’s Cafe and Brit Bar. The event has been made possible through Arts Council England and the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund which has enabled Theatre Orchard to bring a top quality and affordably priced programme to the town as the live industry begins to once again open up to audiences.

Fiona Matthews, Artistic Director at Theatre Orchard said of the event: “Live at the Quarry is a chance to enjoy an uplifting range of brilliant live arts events in what has to be one of North Somerset’s most beautiful and undiscovered spots. Huge thanks to the Arts Council and Culture Recovery Fund for enabling us to get live performance back out there, affordably priced for all to enjoy”.

Other artists scheduled for the programme include Bristol’s critically-acclaimed and internationally successful Kosheen and award- nominated comedian Alex Kitson.
