Scooter Braun, the prominent music mogul known for managing the careers of superstars like Justin B
Scooter Braun, the prominent music mogul known for managing the careers of superstars like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato, has announced his retirement from music management after an impressive 23-year career.
Despite stepping back from management, Braun will continue to serve as CEO of HYBE America, the entertainment company he has led for the past three years.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Braun reflected on his journey, which began at the age of 19 when he first managed an artist named Cato in Atlanta. "Along the way, I have had so many experiences I could never have dreamt of," he wrote. "I have been blessed to have had a `Forrest Gump`-like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen. I`m constantly pinching myself and asking `how did I get here?` And after 23 years this chapter as a music manager has come to an end."
Braun expressed that his decision to retire was driven by a desire to spend more time with his children: sons Levi and Jagger, and daughter Hart. "It`s a strange feeling because I think I have wanted this for a while, but I was truly afraid to answer the question `who would I be without them?` I was really just 19 years old when I started. So for my entire adult life, I played the role of an artist manager on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week," he continued. "And for 20 years I loved it. It`s all I had known."
As his children grew older and his personal life faced challenges, including his divorce from Yael Cohen finalized in September 2022, Braun realized he needed to prioritize his family. "The sacrifices I was once willing to make I could no longer justify. It was time to step into a new role," he wrote.
Braun also expressed his gratitude towards Bang Si-Hyuk, the chairman of HYBE, calling him a true friend who understands Braun`s need to focus on his family. "That is a father first, a CEO second, and a manager no more," he emphasized.
This decision has been on Braun`s mind for the past two years but became more pressing in the summer of 2023 when one of his biggest clients and friends decided to explore new directions. This was a turning point for Braun, solidifying his decision to retire from management and embrace a new chapter in his life.
