Seattle rock band Pearl Jam has been compelled to cancel several dates on their ongoing European tour due to an illness affecting the band members.
The cancellations began with a show in London, UK, initially scheduled for Saturday, June 29th. The band has now also called off their performances in Berlin, Germany, which were set to take place on July 2nd and 3rd.
“Despite everyone’s best efforts, the band has yet to make a full recovery,” Pearl Jam said in a statement. “The impacts of this decision are not lost on us. We feel deeply that so many people spend their time, money, and emotional energy to get tickets and then to come see the band and it is heart-wrenching to have to disappoint you. We also appreciate the many people whose hard work goes into making these shows happen.”
While the specific illness was not disclosed, frontman Eddie Vedder exhibited hoarseness during their Manchester concert on June 25th, attributing his condition to a sickness contracted after high-fiving fans in Dublin.
Pearl Jam’s next scheduled tour date is in Barcelona on July 6th, pending the band’s recovery.
