The Molotow, a beloved Hamburg club threatened with closure, has been saved. The Hamburg Cultural Authority announced that the club will relocate to Reeperbahn 136 in early 2025.
Currently home to the Moondoo Club, the premises will be handed over to the city`s creative society, which will rent and develop them as a cultural venue until 2037.
"This is great news for St. Pauli as a music and club location," Hamburg`s Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda told NDR. "This wouldn’t have been possible without the district`s help and many people searching for potential areas."
The solution emerged from a sense of community in the neighborhood. "When the Molotow`s location problems became known, we spontaneously decided to offer our club rooms," NDR quoted Alexander Kulick, co-operator of Moondoo.
The Molotow must leave its current location by the end of 2024, following a termination notice effective June 30, 2024. A long-term solution has now been found with the Moondoo premises, which Molotow managing director Andi Schmidt (pictured) is thrilled about: "If that isn`t the best birthday present: Exactly on the 34th birthday of the Molotow, we found out there is a new location for us." Founded in 1990, the club now faces its third move.
