Adele has announced that she will take an extended hiatus from music after her current series of concerts. The revelation came during an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, where the star expressed her need for a significant break following her demanding performance schedule.
"My tank is quite empty at the minute," Adele stated, ahead of her 10-date residency in Munich. She emphasized that she has no immediate plans for new music, stating, "I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after all this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while."
Adele, whose last album was released in 2021, has been performing a weekend residency in Las Vegas for the past two years, recently completing her 90th show at Caesar`s Palace. The Vegas residency, which concludes in November, has been both rewarding and exhausting for the singer.
"Even though it`s a very manageable size of crowd, it`s really been an emotional exchange," she shared. "I`m sure I`ll feel even more like [that] every night after the shows in Munich. But it`s a positive thing. It`s just such an exchange of energy."
The Munich residency, set to begin on August 2nd, promises a different scale of experience compared to Las Vegas. Each night, 74,000 fans are expected to attend in a specially-built "pop-up" stadium, equipped with an "Adele experience" that includes an English pub, a stage for a cover band, and stalls selling exclusive cocktails. Organizers also aim to set a Guinness World Record for the largest outdoor screen, spanning 220 meters in length.
Adele shared her excitement on Instagram, posting pictures of the venue and calling the set-up "bloody exciting." She highlighted the importance of the massive video installation for enhancing the fan experience. "They just want to see your face and know it`s you, so the screens are enormous," she explained.
Despite the grandeur, the residency has not yet sold out, with 5% of tickets still available according to the German press agency DPA. Tickets range from €79 to €430.
Reflecting on her decision to take a break, Adele cited the pressures of fame as a significant factor. "I miss everything about before I was famous, I think probably being anonymous the most," she said. Although she appreciates the ability to make music and the reception from fans, she struggles with the constant spotlight. "The fact that people are even interested in my songs and my voice is pretty wild. I don`t think it ever gets normal. So it`s worth it, the balance."
As she prepares for her final performances before her hiatus, fans are eager to witness the iconic singer`s powerful presence and emotional connection one last time in Munich.
