Spain`s live entertainment sector experienced significant growth across several metrics in 2023, though it remains below pre-pandemic levels.

According to data from the Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) Foundation, revenue from live arts increased by 23% year-on-year, with 10% more performances and a 19% rise in spectators compared to 2022.

However, audience numbers across performing arts, classical music, and cinema are still 27% lower than in 2019, and performances have dropped by 14%, with revenues down by 23%.

Popular music showed the strongest recovery, surpassing 2019 levels with revenue 40.5% higher, a 21% increase in concerts, and a slight 0.4% rise in spectators.

This improvement is partly due to initiatives like a youth cultural voucher that reduced ticket prices for young audiences.

SGAE’s general director, Rubén Gutiérrez del Castillo (pictured), highlighted the importance of engaging younger audiences and implementing targeted campaigns. He also emphasized the need to address older generations` concerns, encouraging their return to cultural events like classical music concerts and opera.
