Spain’s music promoters have responded strongly after Real Madrid accused them of sparking the dispute that led to the cancellation of all upcoming concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
In September, Real Madrid postponed future events at the Bernabéu, citing the need to adhere to local noise pollution regulations.
The club attributed the issue to music promoters, whom it blamed for a lawsuit filed by a local residents’ group in a Madrid court, resulting in a ban on concerts.
The Association of Music Promoters (APM), representing hundreds of promoters, countered that it is the responsibility of the stadium`s management to ensure the venue is adequately prepared for events. According to APM, concert organizers at the Bernabéu have faced fines totaling €801,000 since last April for exceeding noise limits.
In a statement, APM expressed that recent accusations against music promoters over noise infractions have caused harm to the public, artists, and the sector as a whole.
The statement from APM reads “In recent months, music promoters who have organised events or booked dates at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium have been exposed to cancellations of their bookings and financial penalties, causing serious harm to the public, artists, promoter companies and workers in the sector involved."
"The latest statements accusing music promoters of being responsible for noise violations at concerts held in the stadium are generating a climate of mistrust in our sector, a sector responsible for both promoting the culture of live music in our country and positioning the Spain brand in the ranking of countries with the greatest cultural activity of live music in Europe.”
APM also clarified that promoters have no authority over the venue`s structure, equipment, or soundproofing. They emphasized that all events at the Bernabéu had proper permits and were managed in close coordination with stadium officials. They stated that it is up to the venue’s operators to ensure it meets noise regulations for live music events.
The association voiced concerns that the dispute could harm Madrid’s status as a leading European cultural destination. APM highlighted the economic benefits of major concerts in Madrid, which draw thousands of visitors and boost sectors like hospitality, retail, and tourism.
