CTS Eventim has been awarded the contract to build a new 20,000-seat arena in Vienna’s St. Marx district in 2023 announced by the City of Vienna.
Originally, the contract had been awarded to OVG Bristol, a subsidiary of the Oak View Group.
According to the Austrian newspaper "Standard," Wien Holding, a city-owned company, canceled the original award to Oak View Group (OVG) for “formal reasons,”.
The project had already faced several delays before the change in partners, with an initial opening target set for this year. The new timeline now anticipates completion in 2030 at the earliest.
In the 2021 tender, Wien Holding initially chose OVG over CTS Eventim, partly due to the latter’s proposal requiring a higher financial contribution from the City of Vienna and involving higher construction costs.
Rather than issuing a new tender, Wien Holding has now selected CTS Eventim, the runner-up in the original process, according to an EU document cited by the "Standard." Wien Holding did not officially confirm the decision, citing a “standstill period.”
The EU document also states that Vienna is now set to contribute €145.9 million to the construction through Wien Holding, whereas OVG’s original proposal had projected a municipal contribution of only €55 million, with overall costs totaling €384 million.
In CTS Eventim`s proposal, the total project cost was estimated at €800 million, with the city’s contribution set at €400 million.
