Live Nation Entertainment reported a 6% drop in revenue to $7.7 billion for the third quarter, due to a shift in its concert lineup from stadium shows to more amphitheater and arena events.
However, despite the decline in revenue, the company posted a record adjusted operating income (AOI) of $910 million, a 4% increase from the same period last year.
This boost came from high attendance and an increase in on-site spending across its venues, including amphitheaters that generate additional revenue from food, beverage, and parking.
The concert promoter, led by CEO Michael Rapino, recorded its busiest summer concert season ever, with show counts up 13% and fan attendance up 3% to 112 million.
Although the mix of venues leaned toward amphitheaters with lower ticket prices than stadiums, the increased volume and fan spending compensated for the revenue drop. Live Nation’s concerts division reached an AOI of $474.1 million, up 39% year-over-year on revenue of $6.58 billion.
Ticketmaster, however, saw a revenue decrease of 17% to $693.7 million, partly due to the shift away from higher-priced stadium events. The company’s sponsorship and advertising division grew, with AOI increasing 10% to $275 million, helped by a rise in strategic partnerships with major brands.
Rapino emphasized that Live Nation’s concert pipeline is expanding, with 2025 ticket sales up by double digits compared to the previous year. "Momentum continues to build, as we expand the industry’s infrastructure with music-focused venues to support artists and reach untapped fan demand across the globe.” Rapino said.
Live Nation anticipates hosting 60 million fans in 2024 at its venues globally, benefiting from venue upgrades, VIP enhancements, and an increase in per-fan spending.
The company looks to continue its growth, especially in high-demand stadium and arena shows for 2025, including Coldplay, Rüfüs Du Sol, and Shakira.
