Connecting the live music industry
Nineteen state-funded regional music venues across Denmark have come together to form a new network
Nineteen state-funded regional music venues across Denmark have come together to form a new network focused on addressing shared challenges in the music industry.
The initiative aims to enhance gender balance, promote sustainability, and engage new audiences with music, creating a stronger and healthier live music scene nationwide.
The 19 venues, designated as Regional Venues by the Danish Arts Foundation for the 2025–2028 funding period, share a responsibility to support and develop Denmark’s music scene at local, regional, and national levels.
Spread across the country, the venues will collaborate on initiatives designed to address key issues facing the industry.
From volunteers working behind the scenes to musicians on stage, the venues aim to tackle challenges collaboratively, fostering a thriving and inclusive music landscape.
The network’s first initiative focuses on improving representation across the music industry, including diversity on stage, behind the scenes, and within the organisations themselves.
A shared data framework and collective commitments to better practices will guide their efforts to ensure more equitable opportunities and support across the sector.
Beyond representation, the network has identified three other priority areas:
1. Common Standards and Collaboration
2. Sustainability
3. Data Collection
The 19 regional venues will collectively receive 38 million DKK (EUR 5M) in state funding, distributed over the next four years. Each venue, receiving between 1.5 and 3.75 million DKK, will use the resources to enhance their local music communities while contributing to a vibrant national music scene.
The Regional Venues initiative is a funding program by the Danish Arts Foundation that has existed since 2000. Every four years, select venues are granted operational support to promote and develop rhythmic music locally, regionally, and nationally.
