Peter Yarrow, the iconic singer-songwriter and member of the legendary folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, has passed away at 86.

Yarrow died of bladder cancer after a prolonged battle, his representative confirmed.

Yarrow, along with Paul Stookey and Mary Travers, formed Peter, Paul and Mary in 1961, quickly rising to fame in New York City`s folk scene. Their debut album topped the Billboard charts, featuring hits like *Lemon Tree* and *If I Had a Hammer*.

Yarrow`s most iconic contribution was *Puff the Magic Dragon*, co-written with Lenny Lipton. Despite speculation about its meaning, Yarrow insisted it was a poignant tale of lost childhood.

The song, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964, inspired numerous covers, animated specials, and a children`s book.
