John Sykes, the British rock guitarist known for his work with Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy, has died at 65 after battling cancer.

A statement on his website described him as a "thoughtful, kind, and charismatic man" who expressed deep gratitude for his fans in his final days.

Sykes co-wrote iconic Whitesnake tracks like *Still of the Night* and *Is This Love*. He started his career with Tygers of Pan Tang in 1980 before joining Thin Lizzy, contributing to their *Thunder and Lightning* album. Later, he became a key member of Whitesnake, playing on their *Slide It In* and *1987* albums, which propelled the band to global success.

After leaving Whitesnake, Sykes formed Blue Murder and later led a touring version of Thin Lizzy.
