Marianne Faithfull, the legendary UK singer and actress known for her distinctive voice and turbule
Marianne Faithfull, the legendary UK singer and actress known for her distinctive voice and turbulent yet influential career, has died at the age of 78, her spokesperson confirmed.
Born in Hampstead in December 1946, Faithfull rose to fame in the 1960s with hits like "As Tears Go By", which reached the UK top 10 in 1964. Her high-profile relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger inspired songs like *Wild Horses* and *You Can’t Always Get What You Want*.
Despite struggling with heroin addiction in the 1970s, Faithfull made a triumphant comeback with her critically acclaimed 1979 album *Broken English*, securing her place as a musical and cultural icon.
Paying tribute, Jagger called her "a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress," while Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards expressed his sorrow, saying he would "miss her." Ronnie Wood also shared his condolences, posting photos of their time together and writing, "Marianne will be dearly missed."
A statement from Faithfull’s spokesperson confirmed she "passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family."
Throughout her life, Faithfull battled numerous health issues, including bulimia, breast cancer, and emphysema. In 2020, she was hospitalized with COVID-19 and was not expected to survive, yet she defied the odds and released her 21st album, *She Walks in Beauty*, the following year.
