Ten UK Festivals cancelled as Promoter collapses

Ten UK music festivals scheduled for this summer have been cancelled following the sudden collapse of events company Wannasee Ltd.

The company cited a “difficult trading environment” and a rapid drop in customer confidence as key factors behind its decision to cease operations.

In a statement released this week, Wannasee said: “Despite extraordinary efforts behind the scenes to secure the future of our events, we’ve reached a point where continuing is no longer possible.”

The cancellation affects several major events, including Kubix and Monument festivals in Sunderland, Sign Of The Times in Hertfordshire, and three regional editions of Stone Valley Festival. Artists previously announced for these events included Shaggy, Blue, Doves, Public Image Ltd, and The Fratellis.

Four tribute-focused festivals—two under the Wannasee brand (in Cumbria and Hertfordshire) and two Jukebox festivals (in Sunderland and Bingley)—have also been called off.

The future of two additional events, Lindisfarne Festival in Northumberland and Northern Kin in County Durham, remains uncertain. However, Wannasee says “positive discussions are currently underway” that may allow both to proceed under new arrangements.

A statement shared on Northern Kin’s social media echoed this hope, assuring fans that efforts are ongoing to ensure the 2025 edition goes ahead and to secure the long-term future of the festival.

The collapse of Wannasee highlights broader challenges facing the UK’s live music sector. The Association of Independent Festivals reported earlier this year that more than 200 UK festivals have shut down since the COVID-19 pandemic, as rising production costs and squeezed consumer spending continue to threaten the viability of independent events.

Reflecting on its closure, Wannasee said it had delivered nearly 100 festivals over 13 years, made possible by the dedication of its team and the loyalty of fans. “We are proud of what we achieved and heartbroken to see it end this way,” the company said.
