The figures reflect the venue’s first full operating year without pandemic-related rescheduling since COVID-19 disruptions began.

The venue hosted 81 event days during the year. While this was below the projected number, operational efficiencies and focused resource management contributed to achieving a profit close to initial expectations.

“Despite slightly fewer events than budgeted, we were able to cushion the economic impact through careful planning and targeted cost savings,” said Philipp Musshafen, director of AG Hallenstadion. He added that event-related expenses were reduced from 29.1% to 22.9% of revenue, indicating greater cost efficiency.

Ticketing revenue reached CHF 814,000, while marketing and sponsorship brought in CHF 2.3 million. Other income totalled just over CHF 1 million, and infrastructure yield accounted for CHF 13.2 million.

With new arenas under development in cities such as Vienna, Milan, and Munich, Hallenstadion is preparing to invest in maintenance and upgrades to remain competitive. Planned projects include increasing the roof’s load-bearing capacity and reviewing the building’s height. These changes will be coordinated with the City and Canton of Zürich to ensure alignment with preservation standards.

“The Hallenstadion can face this international competition among arenas in Europe from a position of strength,” said Dr. Balz Hösly, chairman of the board of directors. “As one of the few independent large arenas without corporate ties, continued investment and innovation are necessary to keep the infrastructure up to date.”

Hösly also noted the venue’s role as an active cultural and economic contributor. “The Hallenstadion is a functional building, not a museum. It must continue to appeal to international artists, event partners, and audiences to maintain its value for the local economy and tourism sector,” he said.
