Bauhaus frontman expresses regret, postpones comeback in support of new album "Silver Shade"
Peter Murphy has cancelled his planned 2025 tour, citing ongoing health concerns.
The Bauhaus frontman shared the news with fans on Monday (June 2) via social media, confirming that he will not be performing as scheduled this summer.
“It is with regret that, due to recent health issues, I will be unable to perform for you this summer,” Murphy wrote. “I am very much saddened by this news. This situation is hopefully temporary, and we will be able to announce shows in support of Silver Shade at some point in the near future. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.”
The cancelled tour dates were slated to promote Silver Shade, Murphy’s first solo album in over a decade. He was scheduled to perform across the U.K. and Europe between June and August.
Murphy’s live performances have been sporadic in recent years, following a series of health-related setbacks. In 2019, a heart attack forced the postponement of a New York residency. A planned Bauhaus reunion tour in 2022 was also cut short when Murphy entered a rehabilitation facility.
In 2023, he withdrew from the Celebrating David Bowie tour after undergoing an unexpected medical procedure. A subsequent U.K. and European leg of the same tour was cancelled in late 2024 after he “suddenly took ill.”
Murphy first rose to prominence in the late 1970s as the frontman of gothic rock pioneers Bauhaus, whose debut single “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” became a genre-defining track. After the group disbanded in 1983, Murphy embarked on a solo career, scoring alternative hits such as “Cuts You Up,” which topped the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1990.
