The report highlights a 26% year-on-year increase from 2023, when music tourism generated £8 billion. It underscores the growing economic impact of live music and the importance of supporting the UK’s music ecosystem.

Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Eras Tour played a key role in boosting tourism numbers, with fans traveling from abroad to catch her UK dates. Charli XCX also contributed significantly, bringing her BRAT album to arenas for the first time. Other major draws included Sam Fender, Olivia Rodrigo, and Chappell Roan.

Music tourism supported 72,000 full-time equivalent jobs in 2024 — a 16% rise from the previous year — demonstrating live music`s growing role in local economies.

“These numbers show just how powerful the UK is as a home for live music,” said Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. “Whether it’s a massive stadium show or a packed-out local venue, music is bringing people together and making a huge difference.”

To further boost the sector, the government recently announced a £30 million Music Growth Package to help emerging talent and safeguard grassroots venues.

UK Music CEO Tom Kiehl celebrated the figures but warned of ongoing challenges. “While music generates huge benefits for our local areas, there remain challenges such as the rising cost of touring and threats to venues and studios,” he said.

The Hometown Glory report aims to shine a spotlight on the cultural and economic power of UK live music and push for continued support across the industry.
