Connecting the live music industry
Jeff Lynne’s ELO have cancelled what was set to be their final concert, scheduled for Saturday, July 13, at BST Hyde Park in London. The performance would have marked the end of the group’s farewell tour and their last-ever show.
According to a statement Lynne is currently being treated for a "systemic infection" and is under the care of a medical team. Doctors have advised that performing is not possible, and no rescheduled date will be offered.
“The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff’s mind today,” the statement read. “While he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time.”
The cancellation follows a similar decision to call off the band’s July 10 performance at Manchester’s Co-Op Live venue, also due to Lynne’s illness.
Jeff Lynne’s ELO launched their Over and Out farewell tour in 2024, beginning in North America before expanding to a run of European dates. The Hyde Park appearance was planned as the tour`s final stop.
Lynne co-founded the Electric Light Orchestra in 1970 alongside Roy Wood and Bev Bevan. The band found international success in the 1970s and early ’80s with platinum albums such as A New World Record, Out of the Blue, Discovery, and the Xanadu soundtrack. After the group disbanded in 1986, Lynne revived the project as Jeff Lynne’s ELO in 2014, releasing two studio albums: Alone in the Universe (2015) and From Out of Nowhere (2019).
In 2020, Lynne was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to music.
