Connecting the live music industry
A new music venue is set to open in central Aarhus, Denmark this October, bringing new life to one of the city’s most storied cultural spaces.
On October 17, Phono will officially open its doors at Mejlgade 53, a location that has served as a cultural hub for over five decades.
The address has previously housed venues including Musikcaféen, Tape, and most recently Super.
“We have a lot of respect for stepping into these rooms. This is where we first started going to concerts in Aarhus ourselves,” said Phono co-founder Jeppe Hofmeister Berg.
Phono’s founders aim to create intimate concert experiences for niche audiences while also offering a platform for younger organisers to gain experience in staging live events. “Those are things we feel are missing in the city,” Berg explained.
The team emphasises that Phono will build on the site’s legacy while introducing something new. “We are 50 percent of the history and 50 percent of the future,” Berg said.
Phono gave a preview of its programming earlier this month with a free concert and plans to continue fostering an environment where emerging music can grow.
