The organisers behind Standon Calling, one of Hertfordshire’s best-known independent music festivals, have entered liquidation, bringing an end to the event after nearly two decades.

First launched in 2006 in the village of Standon, the festival grew from a small local gathering into a 17-edition event that hosted major acts including Charli XCX, Madness, Primal Scream and Bryan Ferry.

In a statement, organisers confirmed: “We regret to announce that after 17 Standon Callings, the 2023 edition will now prove to have been the last.”

They cited “significant financial losses sustained in 2022 and 2023,” which prevented the festival from taking place in 2024 and 2025. Despite seeking new investors for the past 18 months, they said, “additional investment has not been secured and we are left with no other option than to put the company into the control of the liquidators.”

In early 2024, several performers and vendors claimed they were owed tens of thousands of pounds from the 2023 edition. The company’s liquidation comes just a month before organisers were due to seek a licence for a proposed return in 2026 as a smaller, two-weekend event without camping or late-night programming.

The statement concluded by thanking fans and partners “for all the support that so many people have given to the festival over the years,” acknowledging the end of a fixture in the UK’s independent festival calendar.
