Hungary’s Sziget Festival is once again under the control of its founder and management team following its separation from Superstruct Entertainment.

Superstruct, backed by KKR and CVC, had acquired a 70% stake in Sziget in 2017 — marking its first major acquisition in the live entertainment sector. According to industry sources, the split was amicable and mutually agreed upon.

“For 2026, we’re working toward the same goal as always: to continue developing Sziget as one of Europe’s leading festivals with the strong lineup and international allure that has made it a unique event for decades. Superstruct’s period of operational involvement in the festival allowed us to navigate the pandemic and to invest in the quality of the festival experience for visitors from across Europe – we are grateful for all their support.” says Sziget CEO Tamás Kádár.

The festival will now move forward under the leadership of its long-time management team and founder Károly Gerendai, who returns after an eight-year absence. “The ownership structure will be continuously evolving in the coming weeks,” Gerendai told local media, adding that discussions are ongoing with key subcontractors and partners about financing the event.

Sziget Festival has also announced it will return to Óbuda Island in Budapest from August 11–15, 2026.

Founded in 1993, Sziget has hosted acts including Billie Eilish, Lorde, David Guetta, Muse, Prince, and Dua Lipa.
