In a statement shared by his family, they wrote: “It is with immense sorrow that we must share that our husband and father, Steen, has passed away after a short and aggressive battle with cancer.”

Steen Jørgensen was widely respected for his dedication and leadership across Denmark’s live music and cultural sectors. He served as CEO of Copenhagen’s VEGA, and previously led both Bornholm’s Musikhus and Gjethuset in Frederiksværk.

Over the years, he held numerous board and trustee positions, including with Roskilde Festival, The Danish Arts Foundation, and ODD Productions, among many others.

His work extended well beyond Denmark. Steen helped strengthen European collaboration through initiatives such as LiveEurope and Music Saves Ukraine – the latter of which he became closely involved with following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, a cause that, according to those close to him, affected him deeply.

Steen is survived by his wife, brother, five daughters, sons-in-law, and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Sorgenfri Church on 14 November at 2 p.m., and everyone is welcome to attend.
