Live Nation has released its largest-ever global report, Living for Live, revealing that live music has overtaken sports, film, and even sex as the world’s top form of entertainment.
The report, based on a survey of 40,000 respondents across 15 countries, highlights how live experiences have become a defining element of identity, culture, and economic activity worldwide.
“Live music isn’t just growing — it’s shaping economies, influencing brands, and defining culture in real time,” said Russell Wallach, Live Nation’s Global President of Media and Sponsorship (pictured). “Fans have made live the heartbeat of global entertainment, and it’s now one of the most powerful forces driving connection and growth worldwide.”
Key Findings
Live music tops global entertainment: 39% of respondents said that if they could only choose one type of entertainment for life, they would choose live music — ahead of film and sports.
Fandom and identity: 85% of fans said music defines who they are, while 84% said live events give them “the most life.”
Cultural milestones: Three-quarters plan their calendars around concerts, and one in four have tattoos marking live music experiences. Nearly 80% believe concerts bring their families closer together.
Global reach: Fans travelled a combined 40 billion miles for concerts in 2024, with 71% listening to artists who perform in other languages and 84% believing live music unites people across borders.
Economic impact: Almost 60% travel for shows each year, benefiting local hotels, restaurants, and retail.
Real-world connection: 93% of fans said they attend shows to escape digital overload, and 80% would rather spend money on experiences than physical goods.
Live Nation’s report positions live music as not only a leading entertainment choice but also a major contributor to global culture and economic growth — where “the next decade of culture will be built live.”
