Connecting the live music industry
The Cure have confirmed the death of longtime guitarist and keyboard player Perry Bamonte, who has died aged 65.
In a statement published on the band’s website, The Cure said Bamonte passed away at home over Christmas following a short illness.
“It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte,” the statement read. “Quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative, ‘Teddy’ was a warm-hearted and vital part of the Cure story.”
Bamonte worked with The Cure from 1984 to 1989 in a support role before becoming a full-time member in 1990.
During his tenure, he played guitar, six-string bass and keyboards on albums including Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits and The Cure. He also performed more than 400 live shows with the band over a 14-year period.
He rejoined The Cure in 2022, taking part in a further 90 performances. According to the band, these included some of the strongest shows in their history, culminating in the Show Of A Lost World concert in London on 21 November 2024.
