Connecting the live music industry
Legends Global has announced plans to invest up to £65 million in the redevelopment of Utilita Arena Newcastle, signalling a long-term commitment to the city’s live entertainment and events sector.
Legends Global is the new name for the merged entity of Legends and ASM Global, a leading global company managing premier sports, entertainment, and convention venues, providing integrated services from venue development and management to food, merchandise, and event booking, operating over 450 venues worldwide
The proposed investment forms part of Legends Global’s wider UK venue strategy, which is expected to see more than £200m reinvested across several major arenas. Other venues within its portfolio include OVO Arena Wembley, Utilita Arena Sheffield and AO Arena Manchester.
The announcement coincides with the 30th anniversary of Utilita Arena Newcastle, which has established itself as a central venue in the city’s cultural and live entertainment landscape. According to Legends Global, the redevelopment is intended to secure the arena’s long-term future while enhancing facilities for audiences, artists and promoters.
Plans include a targeted increase of around 20% in audience capacity, alongside upgrades across the venue, including artist dressing rooms, public concourses and bars. The proposals also feature new premium hospitality areas on a mezzanine level, supported by a dedicated VIP entrance. Updated technology is expected to be introduced throughout the building to improve acoustics and operational efficiency.
Structural works are scheduled to begin in 2026, with further improvements planned into 2027. Legends Global said the arena will remain open throughout the redevelopment period.
The investment follows a strong year for Utilita Arena Newcastle in 2025, when it hosted more than 100 events. These included concerts by Kylie Minogue, Stereophonics and The Offpring, as well as major events such as the MOBO Awards and the Mercury Prize.
A number of events have already been confirmed for 2026, including WWE Live, the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour, Premier League Darts and performances by artists including Florence + The Machine, Yungblud and The Prodigy. Legends Global said the redevelopment is designed to build on recent momentum and strengthen the arena’s position as a leading live entertainment venue in the North East.
