TRAIN has been part of Aarhus’ live music landscape since its founding in 1998 and has operated as a regional venue and cultural hub, with its status most recently renewed for the 2025–2028 period. Ownership was transferred to the non-profit TRAIN Foundation in 2018.

The funding will contribute to the installation of sound and lighting systems at the new site, currently under construction in the Sydhavnen district. The venue is scheduled to open in September 2026

Karin Salling, deputy chair of Købmand Herman Sallings Fond, said the venue has played a key role in the city’s cultural life for decades and that the new facilities will enhance both audience experience and accessibility.

The overall development project has been underway for approximately eight years and is expected to reach a total investment of around DKK 40 million. According to Henrik Puggaard, chair of the TRAIN Foundation, the contribution represents a significant step toward realising the project’s ambitions.

Carsten V. Nielsen, director of TRAIN, said the donation will enable the venue to implement upgraded technical production standards. “Sound and lighting are central to what we do, and the support allows us to create optimal conditions for both artists and audiences,” he said.

The new venue will feature two stages with capacities of approximately 1,500 and 350 attendees respectively, increasing flexibility for different event formats.

The final concert at TRAIN’s current location is scheduled for May 30, ahead of the relocation to Sydhavnen.
