London venue Troxy has increased its capacity to 3,600 following the completion of a £1.5 million transformation project, marking a significant upgrade for the legendary East End live venue.

The redevelopment of Troxy combines restoration of the venue’s 1930s Art Deco heritage with a series of modern operational improvements.

A central element of the project is the reopening of previously unused basement areas—originally part of the building’s 1933 cinema footprint—which now contribute to improved audience flow and comfort. The changes support an increase in capacity from 3,100 to 3,600.

Front-of-house facilities have also been expanded, with toilet provision more than doubling and the introduction of digital cloakrooms aimed at reducing queue times and improving visitor movement throughout events.

In addition, two large fire exits have been reinstated within the main hall, restoring original routes while enabling the higher capacity. The investment forms part of a broader long-term strategy to support a diverse programme including concerts, club events and corporate functions, building on recent upgrades to sound and lighting infrastructure.

The project has been partly funded through a restoration ticket levy, with contributions from events supporting ongoing venue development.

Tom Sutton-Roberts, Managing Director at Troxy, said:
“This has been a major undertaking and we’re proud to have reached this point. Every decision has been focused on improving the fan experience and making nights run more smoothly, while unlocking parts of the building that are vital to our future. We’re incredibly grateful for the support and patience from everyone who’s walked through our doors during this time.”

Simon Eaton, Head of Live at Troxy, added:
“This increased capacity helps promoters who are currently selling out quickly to earn incremental revenue, which is vital to the industry which is trying to keep ticket prices accessible for fans. We already have lots of loyal acts who call Troxy home, so we’re hoping this will help us establish another wave of new promoters who are keen to bring special gigs to the East End. At Troxy we are proud to be a fan-first, accessible venue and these works and the investment just underpins our commitment to the future for live entertainment in the capital.”

The upgrade also includes the restoration of a historic feature—a hidden organ lift—allowing the venue’s Wurlitzer console to rise from beneath the stage for selected performances, reflecting the building’s origins as a cinema.

Since reopening as a live events venue in 2006, Troxy has positioned itself as a multi-purpose venue within the London market, hosting live music, film screenings, awards shows and corporate events.
