Schöne, who has led the Germany-based venue operator since 2017, said she would have preferred to remain in the role beyond the expiry of her current contract in December 2026.

According to local reports, she had requested a further three-year extension and had hoped to oversee the handover of a renovated Olympiapark to her successor.

Olympiapark München GmbH manages, markets and operates Munich’s 850,000-square-metre Olympic Park site in Germany, hosting major concerts, festivals, sports events and leisure activities. The venue is considered one of the country’s leading event locations and is owned by the City of Munich.

Former Munich economic affairs officer and CSU mayoral candidate Clemens Baumgärtner is expected to take over the leadership role from the start of 2027. During his time as Munich’s economic affairs officer between 2019 and 2025, Baumgärtner helped attract major live events to the city, including Adele’s exclusive 10-show residency in Munich in August 2024, which took place at a specially built outdoor arena near the Olympiapark site.
