Dutch music venue BIRD has appointed Lorenzo Nicola as its new club programmer, succeeding Casper ten Brink, who is leaving the organisation to join Doornroosje in Nijmegen.
Based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Nicola—also known as Lolo—brings more than 12 years of experience as a DJ, event organiser and programmer. Throughout his career, he has been involved with a range of club and cultural concepts, including Boeisco, MOOD, The Box, Fresh, Vieze Anita and Yardbird.
In his new position, Nicola will oversee the further development of BIRD’s club programme, with a focus on strengthening connections between music, community and Rotterdam’s nightlife culture.
“What immediately appealed to us about Lorenzo is his love for Black music culture, community, and building his own concepts,” BIRD said in a statement. “That aligns strongly with BIRD’s vision and energy.”
Nicola takes over from Casper ten Brink, who began his career at BIRD as an intern before progressing through a number of roles, including marketer and independent club programmer. During his time at the venue, he contributed to a wide variety of concerts, club nights and marketing initiatives.
“We are proud of the development Casper has undergone within BIRD,” the venue said. “We want to thank him for his dedication, energy, and all the years of collaboration, and wish him much success with this wonderful next step.”
Founded in 2011, BIRD is a Rotterdam-based live music venue and cultural hub in the Netherlands. The venue has become known for its focus on jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, electronic music and broader Black music culture.
