Danish Venue Publishes First ESG Report

Copenhagen concert venue VEGA has published its first consolidated environmental, social and governance report, outlining its work on climate impact, working conditions and responsible management.
The report brings together the venue’s initiatives and data in one document for the first time. It has been prepared in accordance with the European voluntary VSME reporting standard and will be used to track progress against VEGA’s future sustainability and social responsibility targets.
“We are first and foremost assessed on the concerts and events we create and the way they connect people and make an impact,” said VEGA CEO Anders Wahrén. “But we also believe that a modern venue should be able to document how it takes responsibility for the climate, the people around it and its wider impact on society.”
Among the measures highlighted is a system under which a significant proportion of the spirits sold in VEGA’s bars is delivered in bulk containers and bottled on site. According to the venue, the initiative saves around 4,500 glass bottles and reduces carbon emissions by approximately 3.7 tonnes annually.
VEGA has also entered into a long-term power purchase agreement linked to a new Danish wind farm. From 2027, the agreement is expected to cover around 80% of the venue’s electricity consumption.
The report also covers energy-saving measures, reusable cups, waste sorting and efforts to introduce more circular operating practices. It includes VEGA’s first assessment of its overall climate footprint, while identifying areas where additional data is still required, including transport and the supply chain.
Alongside its environmental initiatives, VEGA reports on talent development, representation in its music programme, safety for guests, artists and employees, and responsible governance.
VEGA operates as a commercial foundation, with any surplus reinvested in music and cultural activities. The venue said that in 2025 it contributed more to society through taxes, VAT and social contributions than it received in public subsidies.
“We do not see the report as a final answer,” Wahrén said. “It is a starting point for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and setting higher expectations for ourselves.”
VEGA plans to publish the ESG report annually as part of its regular reporting and use it to monitor and develop its approach to social and environmental responsibility.
