Veteran Artist Manager Peter Katsis Dies at 69

Veteran US music manager Peter Katsis, whose career included representing artists including The Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey, Backstreet Boys, Audioslave, Korn and Limp Bizkit, has died aged 69.
Katsis died on Thursday following complications from congestive heart failure.
He began his music industry career in Chicago during the 1980s, initially managing industrial rock band Ministry. After relocating to Los Angeles in the 1990s, he went on to work with a broad range of artists across rock, alternative, metal, hip-hop and pop.
His management career included work with The Cramps, Jane’s Addiction, Korn and Limp Bizkit, as well as Backstreet Boys during the group’s peak commercial years. Other artists he represented during his career included Snoop Dogg, One Direction, Liz Phair, 311, Morrissey and Audioslave.
In 2008, Katsis co-founded Los Angeles-based artist management company Prospect Park, further establishing his position within the US management sector.
Following news of his death, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan paid tribute to Katsis, describing him as being like family and crediting him with helping to shape the alternative music movement of the 1980s and 1990s.
“I’ll always cherish his intense candor and deep love of great music; which was infectious,” Corgan said. “And he deserves immense credit for helping to usher in the alternative revolution of the (80s and 90s) and beyond. He was truly one of a kind. One of us. And Chicago royalty through and through.”
Ministry also paid tribute, saying they hoped Katsis’ “next journey be as prodigious as this one.”
