The current lineup consists of Marcus Baylor (drums, percussion), Russell Ferrante (piano, keyboards, synthesizers), Jimmy Haslip (electric basses), and Bob Mintzer (saxophones, bass clarinet, EWI).

Mintzer joined the group in 1991. Baylor joined the group in 2000. The original group, called The Robben Ford Group, consisted of Robben Ford (guitar), Ricky Lawson (drums), Russell Ferrante, and Jimmy Haslip. Ford had originally assembled the group to record Inside Story, but left in 1978, seeking a more vocal and commercial sound.
