Connecting the live music industry
Poland’s Łódź Summer Festival recorded a cumulative attendance of 800,000 across its three-day 2026 edition, according to organisers, further establishing the free city-backed event as one of the country’s largest urban music festivals.
Held from 24–26 July at Lódzkie Blonia, the festival featured international artists including Sean Paul, Timbaland, Bastille, Natalie Imbruglia, Jet and a Rudimental DJ set, alongside leading Polish acts including Mata, Bedoes 2115, PRO8L3M, Pezet and Tede.
The festival site has a maximum simultaneous capacity of 150,000. Unlike most major festivals, however, admission is free and does not require a ticket or registration, meaning organisers calculate overall attendance based on multiple waves of visitors entering and leaving the site throughout each day.
The event reached its simultaneous capacity during Bedoes 2115’s Saturday performance, prompting organisers to temporarily close entrances for crowd-safety reasons.
From city anniversary event to major festival
Lódz Summer Festival was launched in 2023 as part of celebrations marking the 600th anniversary of the city of Lódz. It has since developed into an annual event taking place over the final weekend of July. Previous international performers have included Tom Odell, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Röyksopp, Louis Tomlinson, Shaggy and London Grammar.
The first two editions were staged in central Lódz before the event moved to the larger Lódzkie Blonia site in 2025, allowing organisers to expand its production, camping, hospitality and brand activation infrastructure.
The festival is organised by the City of Lódz, with the Lódz Events Centre playing a central role in its production and delivery. Tomasz Piotrowski, Deputy Mayor of Lódz, is the originator of the festival, while Michal Adamkiewicz heads the Lódz Events Centre. mBank has been a principal commercial partner since the event`s early editions.
Ahead of the 2026 edition, organisers expanded the total festival footprint, including the camping area, to more than 400,000 square metres. The production included more than 20,000 square metres of temporary roads, over 10 kilometres of fencing and close to 2,000 security personnel.
Beyond the concerts, this year`s festival featured more than 80 food trucks, extensive sponsor and brand activations, a festival village, camping facilities and an afterparty programme.
One of the weekend`s more unusual moments came when Polish rapper Quebonafide appeared at the festival disguised as an elderly man, initially handing out ice cream to visitors before revealing his identity.
Festival positioned as tourism driver
The City of Lódz increasingly positions the festival not only as an entertainment event but as a tourism and city-marketing project. Ahead of this year`s edition, hotel occupancy for the Saturday night was reported at 96%, while organisers said the festival was generating significant national and international online interest.
According to Piotrowski, the scale is intended to demonstrate what a free, municipality-backed festival model can achieve in terms of audience, artist bookings and production.
“The festival site has a maximum simultaneous capacity of 150,000 people. As Lódz Summer Festival is free to attend and does not require registration, there are multiple waves of attendance throughout each day, with many festivalgoers timing their visits around specific artists. As a result, cumulative attendance reached 800,000 across the three-day event.
The line-up featured international artists including Timbaland, Sean Paul, Bastille, Natalie Imbruglia, Jet and Rudimental DJ Set. Content published across the festival’s owned channels generated a combined digital reach of nearly 250 million, driven particularly by TikTok and Instagram. During the festival weekend, Lódz Summer Festival ranked as the No. 1 entertainment-related search on Google and No. 14 overall in Poland.
The festival has also become one of Lódz’s most important tourism projects, with hotel occupancy reaching 96 per cent on the Saturday night of the event. For the music and live entertainment sector, this demonstrates that a free, city-led festival can deliver the audience scale, international line-up and production standards associated with major ticketed events. Our ambition is to give artists the opportunity to play some of the biggest shows of their careers.”
