Danish Festival Files for Bankruptcy
Copenhagen-based AiaSound has filed for bankruptcy, bringing an end—at least for now—to one of Denmark’s larger urban music festivals after five years of operation.
In a statement released by the organisation, the festival confirmed that it submitted a voluntary bankruptcy petition to the bankruptcy court on 12 December. The company behind AiaSound will consequently cease its activities as a festival and cultural organiser.
Founded in 2019, AiaSound has taken place annually at Tiøren in Copenhagen and positioned itself as a major platform for international pop, hip-hop and urban music.
Over the years, the festival hosted a range of global artists including Wizkid, Skepta, Steve Angello, Craig David (TS5) and Ferg, alongside leading Danish and Nordic acts.
Festival founder Frederik Kjærsgaard said the decision was taken after careful consideration:
“The festival industry has changed significantly, and there have never been so many strong players in the field as there are now. After five years of hard work, big ambitions, setbacks, successes and everything in between, we have to be honest: right now it requires more than we are able to give.”
