Troxy increases capacity to 3,600 following £1.5m upgrade

The redevelopment of Troxy combines restoration of the venue’s 1930s Art Deco heritage with a series of modern operational improvements. 

A central element of the project is the reopening of previously unused basement areas—originally part of the building’s 1933 cinema footprint—which now contribute to improved audience flow and comfort. The changes support an increase in capacity from 3,100 to 3,600.

Front-of-house facilities have also been expanded, with toilet provision more than doubling and the introduction of digital cloakrooms aimed at reducing queue times and improving visitor movement throughout events.

In addition, two large fire exits have been reinstated within the main hall, restoring original routes while enabling the higher capacity. The investment forms part of a broader long-term strategy to support a diverse programme including concerts, club events and corporate functions, building on recent upgrades to sound and lighting infrastructure.

The project has been partly funded through a restoration ticket levy, with contributions from events supporting ongoing venue development.

The upgrade also includes the restoration of a historic feature—a hidden organ lift—allowing the venue’s Wurlitzer console to rise from beneath the stage for selected performances, reflecting the building’s origins as a cinema.

Since reopening as a live events venue in 2006, Troxy has positioned itself as a multi-purpose venue within the London market, hosting live music, film screenings, awards shows and corporate events.
