New Danish agency challenges Live Nation dominance

Danish artist Mathilde Falch has launched a new independent booking agency, Just For The Record Booking, positioning the company as an alternative to what she describes as increasing consolidation in Denmark’s live music business.

The new agency initially represents Danish artists Fallulah, Sharon The Baron, Nana Jacobi and Falch herself, with another artist set to be announced.

Falch said the launch follows several years in which she has publicly raised concerns about concentration of ownership and market power across booking, ticketing, venues, festivals and other parts of the Danish music industry.

“I want to help create alternatives to the centralisation and monopoly-like conditions we are seeing in the music industry,” Falch said when announcing the agency.

Her comments specifically reference Live Nation and its presence across several parts of the Danish live entertainment value chain.

Live Nation Denmark’s activities include concert promotion and ticketing through Ticketmaster Denmark, while the company also lists Live Nation Agency and Luger Denmark as its two Danish artist agencies.

Falch argues that greater consolidation can make it more difficult for independent venues, promoters and developing artists to compete and has called for greater attention to competition within the Danish market.

Falch said Just For The Record Booking will focus on representing artists while maintaining an independent approach to the wider live music market.

The agency takes its name from Just For The Record, the independent label Falch established when she was 19 and through which she has released her own music.
