FTC mandates All-In Pricing for tickets in US

The US Federal Trade Commission approved a rule on Dec. 17 requiring live-event ticketing and short

The US Federal Trade Commission approved a rule on Dec. 17 requiring live-event ticketing and short-term lodging businesses to disclose total prices, including all fees, upfront. Effective mid-April 2025, the rule aims to eliminate hidden "junk fees" that surprise consumers at checkout. FTC Chair Lina Khan (pictured) said the move would save Americans billions and simplify budgeting. The FTC estimates the rule could save consumers up to 53 million hours annually in searching for accurate pricing. The decision passed 4-1, with Commissioner Andrew Ferguson dissenting, citing concerns about rulemaking during the Biden Administration`s final months. Industry giant Live Nation, which adopted all-in pricing last year, praised the rule, noting an 8% sales boost after implementing the practice. The rule aligns with broader bipartisan efforts, including the proposed TICKET Act, which seeks to regulate ticket sales and secondary markets further.
