One dead and five injured in shooting at Swiss event

A 22-year-old woman has died and five other people have been injured following a shooting at a rave event in Aarau, Switzerland, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 43-year-old Swiss man has been arrested following a shooting at a rave in Switzerland in which a woman was killed.

Police were called at around 2.30am after shots were fired during the closing stages of the Aarauer Rave, held at the city’s horse racing track.

Four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The event was organised by Zurich-based Urban Agency Events AG. In a statement provided to Swiss media, the organiser said it was “shocked, shaken and deeply saddened” by the incident and expressed sympathy with the victims, their families and friends.

The company added that it would provide the police with all possible assistance during the investigation.

The incident raises renewed questions around security procedures and risk management at large-scale music events, particularly events operating late at night with large crowds and open or semi-open sites.

Local authorities in Aarau said municipal resources, including police and fire services, were being made available to support the emergency response. Police were expected to provide further information during press conferences later on Sunday.
